Intelligent Footnote Linking in Noorlib Database
Through the efforts of the Intelligent Processing Department engineers, over 4 million citations in the Noorlib database have been intelligently extracted and made available to users.
Challenge and Necessity
Considering that citations in a book to other sources usually appear in footnotes, and referring to them by researchers is not only time-consuming but also disrupts the study and research process. Furthermore, manual citation linking is impossible due to the high volume of sources. Therefore, the Noor Computer Research Center for Islamic Sciences has intelligently implemented the book footnote linking project in the Noor Specialized Digital Library (Noorlib).
Intelligent Solution
Given the diversity of citations, book titles, authors, and variations in book editions, the algorithm for machine-based extraction of these links required a complex system for analyzing footnotes. This important task was successfully accomplished through the efforts of the Intelligent Processing Department engineers. With acceptable accuracy, over 4 million citations in the Noor Specialized Digital Library (Noorlib) were automatically and intelligently extracted and made available to users.
Features of Intelligent Footnotes
Noorlib's intelligent footnotes have the following features:
- Validation: Citations have been verified for accuracy and authenticity
- Connection to Original Source: Footnotes are linked to their original sources
- Distinct Display: When the user accesses the source, the referenced text is displayed distinctively in the original book
- Context Examination: Researchers can examine the text before and after their research target
Applications
- Time savings for researchers
- Facilitation of research and study processes
- Automatic citation validation
- Direct access to original sources
