History and Intelligent Activities of the Computer Research Center of Islamic Sciences (Noor)
Attention to modern intelligent content processing technologies has been one of the core missions of the Computer Research Center of Islamic Sciences (Noor) since its inception. Based on this mission, the "National Seminar on Computer and Islamic Sciences" was held by the center in 1992 (1371 SH). Subsequently, numerous Islamic software products were developed and published based on this foundation.
In the 2000s, the project "Automated Validation of Hadith Documents" was produced as the first product utilizing AI capabilities and was released in the form of the Dirayat al-Noor software.
With the growing need to expand intelligent capabilities, a section titled "Text Mining and Intelligent Processing" was formed in the center in 2012 (1391 SH). This led to a leap in the development of intelligent features in Islamic software. Since then, over 30 achievements have been realized in this field, including:
- Morphological analyzer and intelligent root finder for words in the "Comprehensive Quran" and "Qamus Noor" databases.
- Content recommendation systems for Hadiths and articles in the "Jami al-Ahadith" and "Noormags" databases.
- Verse-finder and Hadith-finder services in the "Noorlib" database.
- "Samim Noor" plagiarism detection system.
- Citation analysis of articles and footnote linking for books.
The establishment of the "Lab for AI and Digital Islamic and Humanities", with an emphasis on an extra-organizational perspective, is a new step towards maximizing synergy with universities and research institutes active in the field of intelligent processing of Islamic content.
On the other hand, the production and publication of datasets, corpora, and services required to streamline and facilitate Islamic content processing workflows are also considered among the main missions of the Noor Lab for AI and Digital Islamic and Humanities.
